Emma A Beckett was the Boyd family's first and most important patron, buying and promoting their work, and providing their main source of income. The Boyds are revered by many as one of Australia's most artistic families, specialising in visual arts.
Emma authored diaries spanning half a century which tell an absorbing story of the birth of arguably one of Australia's most famous artistic families. Emma was a decisive influence in this family. Her passionate and for its time, surprising, commitment to her daughter's career (Emma Boyd, known as Minnie Boyd) as an artist was crucial in the development of Minnie's practice.
