Special Achievements:

1997-1998 - Marlene and her twin sister Marilyn were the first Indigenous women to graduate with a Bachelor of Medicine from the University of Sydney.

1993 - Inaugural winner of the National AMA Indigenous People’s Medical Scholarship.

1997 - Local Indigenous Community Achievement Award recipient, along with twin sister, Marilyn, Newcastle New South Wales.

2005 – Awarded Ron Castan Memorial Indigenous Scholarship (Australian Friends of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Victorian Division), Melbourne.

2008 - Successful nominee for the Australia 2020 Summit to discuss ideas for the “Options for the Future of Indigenous Australia.”

2016-2017 - Neeli Advanced Women’s Leadership Program scholarship subsidy recipient.
