She trained at the Nightingale Training School, St Thomas' Hospital. One month into her training she was selected to lead a team of nurses to establish the Nightingale nursing system in Australia. She and five others arrived in Sydney, 5 March 1868. In 1869 she established a training school for nurses at Sydney's 'The Infirmary.' She returned to England in 1884 due to poor health.
