Susan Maree RYAN
Born: 10 October 1942Special Achievements:
1975-1988 - First first Labor Senator for the Australian Capital Territory.
1990 - Appointed Officer of the Order of Australia for her contribution to parliament.
In the Hawke government, served as Minister for Education and Youth Affairs, Minister Assisting the Prime Minister on the Status of Women, and Special Minister of State. She pioneered extensive anti-discrimination and equal opportunity legislation, including the Sex Discrimination Act 1984 and the Affirmative Action Act, 1986. Published her autobiography, Catching the Waves, in 1999. Has held many senior positions e.g., member ASX Corporate Governance Council (2003-2007), CEO Association of Superannuation Funds of Australia, Age Discrimination Commissioner with the Australian Human Rights Commission, and several positions at the University of New South Wales.
